Arroyo Ditch Trail

Arroyo Ditch was hand dug by Chinese and Yugoslavian workers in 1851. It was carved out of the very steep terrain by hand. It is 18 miles long.

We have opened up about 1/2 mile for guests to explore. The outer walls were hand stacked. They remain to this day. Kirkland Ranch was one of the few access points for maintenance. China Wall, located on the "Dena's Secret Falls" trail, was a meeting place and rest spot for the workers and maintenance crews up until the mid 1990's when the ditch ceased to be used.  For many years the Arroyo Ditch supplied water to Plymouth.
